Sometimes I'd like to ask God why He allows poverty, famine and injustice when He could do something about it. But I'm afraid God might ask me the same question.

The Purpose and the process of Christmas?

Something else I am thankful about with this bummer economy, my newfound clarity of what the holidays are all about. The purpose and the process, not the presents.... UMMMM question is , how do I pass on my new found clarity to 4 kiddos??? We have tons of holiday traditions, some of which I admit I do rush through, well not this year. I am going to savour making a Messy Gingerbread house, cutting down our Christmas tree, baking cookies and all that jazz... But anyone got any other ideas, how to get the kids on board so when I ask them, "Hey Kids, What is your favorite part about Christmas?" That their response in unison isn't "PRESENTS", screamed at the top of their collective lungs...
Any suggestions?????

Christmas caroling - and you certainly have enough people in your family to pull this off without even involving anyone esle! - "Santa on the doorstep" - a la devil on the doorstep - make some cookies, wrap them up nice and have the kiddos take them up to the porch, ring the doorbell and RUN! - Making Christmas Cards for family and/or friends and/or neighbors...this is as simple as a pack of paper, glue and baubles from the dollar store and a lot of creative ways to use your hand to make trees and reindeer and such, and a Family Christmas Movie night - this was my fave from my own childhood and Scott and I do sort of the same thing - pick a couple of movies, have some "treats" and watch Christmas movies together. We do this on Christmas Eve day - and have since we first met - with deli meat and cheese, some crackers and others snacks and and a few cookies - our Holiday movie selections? STAR WARS - yup...the ENTIRE series - all six movies, back to back...its delightful and Jay even sat through it the last couple of years.

my parents started a tradition with us a long time ago...we place a simple brown bag holding baby jesus (from our nativity) way up under the tree and it is the last gift that is opened on christmas morning...the youngest gets to open it (robert is glad lucy is finally here to alleviate him of the YEARS of responsibility : ) joey and i have added reading the christmas story from the bible as the bag is opened...
i also love how you've simplified gifts for your kids this year...i think we may try to do that...to decide on only a certain small number of gifts our kids get every year so that it doesn't get carried away...i'm still working on finding a good way to get our family to serve on christmas too...
btw - those fries look so delicious to me and it is only 9am!!
